BUGSPRAY

Identities revealed, founders Yokley and Kim began publicly pushing the practice of praxis proliferation with Operation Bugspray, an live escape room experience within the 2023 DePaul Comedy Arts Mess Fest. Development steadily took place during the 2023 autumn quarter… puzzles were penned, settings were set, and the Showbiz Special Agency was created. Operation Bugspray took a great deal of forms before one was settled upon, 77 days before showtime.

The show gradually took shape as the festival developed, until, after much ado, the big day arrived. Gathered in the large theater of The Annoyance Theater and Bar, an erudite audience of aspiring operators eagerly awaited the opening beats. Yokley delivered; masquerading as the intrepid Special Agent Scotty Parr, he exploded onstage and delivered a dance routine that has yet to be bested in any sphere.

It was a happy occasion; gathered in the theater that day was the latest graduating class of Agent School. The many incomparable members of the audience were just one step away from full agenthood; a real field operation. However, before he could finish giving the briefing, Parr was interrupted by a mischievously malevolent miscreant; Dr. Phinnleston Explodio, the Agency’s third-worst nemesis, who has rigged the building to self-destruct.

Thankfully, those assembled were able to make quick work of Explodio’s diabolical gauntlet. With a remarkable sense of teamwork, the cadets triumphed over the self-destruct system’s puzzles, saving all present from certain doom. Soon after, Agent Parr freed himself from his bonds and gave Explodio a solid beat down; the despicable dentist fled to lick his wounds, and Parr declared that the cadets had all graduated. Then, with a signature sense of dramatic flair, the lights went down, the music came up, and it all came to and end.
